ABOUT

Thom Crowhurst is a contemporary Australian/Hungarian artist and a veteran of the Royal Australian Navy currently based in Ngambri/Canberra. His striking work draws from a long history working across street art, surrealism and cubism which he has unified into a unique and instantly recognisable visual language. His deeply personal and expressive figurative work is often devoid of specific time, place, gender and race as he attempts to explore questions of his own existence through his art.

He began 2025 with the launch of his new solo show GRONK and the closure of his private studio to symbolise the beginnings of a new chapter in his artistic career. Embracing the tagline “AUSTRALIA’S WORST ARTIST” in his recent guerrilla marketing campaign, he rejects the rigid old ways of bowing to gatekeeping institutions that claim authority over artistic success. Now distancing himself from the expectations of a “traditional” painter, Crowhurst seeks to subvert the conservative institutions that supposedly hold the keys to the kingdom and challenge what it means to be an artist in 2025.
